Are you receiving incoming calls that hang up right when you answer them? If so, here are a few things you can check to resolve the issue.
Please note that this guide covers disconnected incoming calls where you do receive a ring. If you’re experiencing issues with dropped calls after the call has connected or you’re receiving missed call notifications without a ring at all, then please see the linked articles.
Possible reasons
Verification calls or calls from financial or professional services
There is no guarantee that OpenPhone can receive calls for the purpose of 2-factor authentication or phone number verification. Often, the services that initiate these calls disallow calls to virtual or VOIP numbers. When these calls come into OpenPhone, they result in an incoming call ring that immediately disconnects upon answering. Common examples of this occurring are verification calls from a bank, financial institute, or service (e.g. Apple or Uber).
Caller has disconnected
If a caller has disconnected the call within a few seconds of you answering, then the call will end. It may appear as if the call is dropping immediately upon answering.
Connection issues
As a VOIP phone, OpenPhone requires a strong internet connection, either via WiFi or data, to work properly. If you do not have a reliable connection, it’s possible that you may have issues with receiving an incoming call. In these cases, we’d recommend to try changing to a different internet source (e.g. WiFi to data or vice versa) or, if using WiFi, reset your router.
It’s also possible that a third-party extension, firewall, or VPN can be blocking your connection, resulting in the above issue. If this is the case, you may want to try disabling it to see if that resolves the issue. For more information on using VPNs with OpenPhone, please see this article.
